I cant believe that liberal media never asked Obama any questions about his connections to radical terrorists, but the Palin family is constantly in the spotlight.

Why does the liberal media fear Sara so much? Is it because they know that she can beat Obama in an election?

Scott Lindsay asked:

I came across a video the other day that showed an animated twenty-something male sitting at his laptop and closing it up in disgust. Suddenly an icon that looked amazing like one of the social media company’s logo walks into the room and with a cartoon face begins inquiring why the main character left the social media site.

The man explains that he is tired of the site and needs to move on with his life. Suddenly the icon of another famous social media site arrives and then three more drop by. They all begin bullying the man to come back to cyberspace and play.

Finally the animated man says that he needs to get a life and move on. Although every cartoon icon begs him to come back the brave man walks outside and begins walking downtown. He sits at a pleasant sidewalk café, but no one will talk to him. This cartoon man tries virtually everything possible to enjoy life.

Suddenly he looks around to find no one paying any attention to him and says, “This is lame.” He then proceeds to walk home and open up his laptop as the video ends.

For many online users there may be more truth to this video than they want to admit. Some of the most engaging conversation many will encounter during a day will be online through social media.

I intentionally left out any specific social media page names because there are simply too many of them to list. Each social media page focuses on something specific and then provides some more generalized offerings.

It may be a sad commentary that for some individuals the online world may be preferred to real life, but this is often the truth.

This is why marketing to this genre is important. You see these individuals are extremely motivated to be online and engage others in the same way. These are not sideline players. These are the first string online users who eat, drink, breathe and sleep Internet.

When you market to social media you are not simply embracing a casual online user. These are ******** users who often understand special coding issues for their social media page. They know how to add widgets and other interactive devices to their personal social media world. They have made the term geek cool.

This truth may be why Google has been so interested in developing advertising accessibility within social media sites. Their PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising can result in profits for virtually everyone involved.

Social media is a format that has found a future in spare parts. So many associate programs are being used to develop interactive content, personalized page design and secure music distribution. Because social media has left the door open we will likely see more and more mix and match options to drive future potential in social media.

Whether you are looking to develop a direct or indirect marketing campaign via social media it is a format that lends itself to reaching out.

So, ummmm, reach out already.

John M asked:

While a few may debate whether the media has an agenda, it is clear from multiple news sources that there is an overwhelming bias against anything conservative. For example, consider the media’s stance on abortion, contraception, the Republican Party, the war in Iraq, homosexuality, or religion. On each of these issues, the media is overwhelmingly on the left. This would seem to be a relatively recent phenomenon, and I am curious as to why this is the case.

Obviously, FOX News is as conservative as it gets. “We report, you decide” is laughable even though I tend to accept that it’s impossible for media sources to be completely down the middle.

We hear a lot about the “liberal media”, though, with the NY Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, etc. I want to know which newspapers or other sources there are that are considered “conservative”. I also find it interesting that it seems like MSNBC has passed CNN for being more liberal.

Scott Lindsay asked:

One of the interesting dynamics that make social media a potential boon to marketing is that many social networks are connecting across multiple sites.

I recently came across a social media site that used a spidering technique to find you (and your friends) at other social media sites and help you link across networks.

What this dynamic does is provide the opportunity to develop a network that is not only site specific, but integrated to include multiple sites. This can help you maximize the total number of friends in the total number of networks you’re a part of.

This makes it less difficult to discover if a friend is involved in other social media sites and offers opportunity to expand your own network through multiplied opportunities to connect with others.

Social media is providing both an extensive personal experience as well as offering marketing potential. On a personal level you can share your thoughts in blog form, you can share your latest photography. Users are downloading originally designed audio and they are challenging all of us to share in personal opinion.

While separate blogs and forum boards exist, and are still going strong, the role of social media is that of a convenience store as compared to a specialty shop. In one location you have so many options at self-expression and connection that it can make other forms of online media seem a little dull in comparison.

In some cases I suppose a social media site can seem a little indulgent, but it can literally mean thousands of individuals receiving impressions about you and your business. In most cases social media is not reserved simply for personal thought conveyance. Businesses will routinely use it to share contemporary ideas and encourage new connection.

As a new generation finds less and less in common with traditional forms of media they are also finding social networking to be a meaningful alternative to many other sources previous generations found important.

For instance this new generation is less inclined to identify with traditional radio or newsprint. If they want information they will access it online. They won’t watch evening news they will download video when they want - online. When they want music they are more inclined to listen on a social media site or a place like Pandora. If they really like a song they will purchase it online for their mp3 player.

It’s not even that this generation hates these more traditional forms of media - they just don’t get the lack of immediate gratification in the on demand world they live in. It simply doesn’t fit their life.

That being said, a social media network allows them to access entertaining videos posted by members. They can preview songs they may like, but never hear on traditional radio, and they can find information often written by their favorite musician or actor.

This is the world this generation lives in, and if you are a web-based entrepreneur this is the world in which you will best reach them. That may seem like an overstatement, but it’s true. This culture is all about connection and if you aren’t willing to take your message to them you will not likely be heard. This is the power of social media.
